Discontinuity Detection in Regression Surfaces

چکیده
We consider the problem of locating jumps in regression surfaces. A jump detection algorithm is suggested based on local least squares estimation. This method requires O(Nk) computations, where N is the sample size and k is the window width of the neighborhood. This property makes it possible to handle large data sets. The conditions imposed on the jump location curves, the jump surfaces and the noise are mild.

Simultaneous robust estimation of multi-response surfaces in the presence of outliers
A robust approach should be considered when estimating regression coefficients in multi-response problems. Many models are derived from the least squares method. Because the presence of outlier data is unavoidable in most real cases and because the least squares method is sensitive to these types of points, robust regression approaches appear to be a more reliable and suitable method for addres...
متن کاملFast segmentation of planar surfaces in range images
A new algorithm for planar face segmentation in range images is introduced. The segmentation is based on a combination of recursive adaptive regression model prediction for detecting range image step discontinuities which are present at object face borders and of a region growing on surface lines. Border pixels are detected in two perpendicular directions and detection results are combined toge...
متن کاملHousehold electricity demand estimation: a regression discontinuity design approach
Estimating electricity demand elasticity in different sectors has been an essential research topic. Considering the fact that pricing electricity in various countries does not follow the same rules, many econometrics methods have been developed to estimate this crucial parameter. Electricity demand elasticity is defined as the percent change in electricity consumption in response to one percent...
متن کاملOffsetting surface boundaries and 3-axis gouge-free surface machining
A key issue in the creation of error-free tool path for numerically controlled (NC) surface machining is gouging (over-cut> prevention. In the case of solid-based machining, where the creation of tool paths across several surfaces in a single pass is imperative, the major sources for gouging are the tangent discontinuity (C’ discontinuity) and the surface gap (Co discontinuity) occurred in the ...
متن کاملContinuity-based and discontinuity-based segmentation in transparent and spatially segregated global motion
The mechanisms underlying the parsing of a spatial distribution of velocity vectors into two adjacent (spatially segregated) or overlapping (transparent) motion surfaces were examined using random dot kinematograms. Parsing might occur using either of two principles. Surfaces might be defined on the basis of similarity of motion vectors and then sharp perceptual boundaries drawn between differe...
